REGISTRATION FOR THE CAROLINAS PICTURE BOOK DUMMY CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED.
We have reached our maximum enrollment for 2014. Thank you for your interest!
The Picture Book Dummy Challenge for Illustrators is a 25-week tutorial hosted online at www.carolinas.scbwi.org with the goal of producing a finished picture book dummy, either for submission to a publisher or as a portfolio sample.
In addition to the online tutorial and discussion, SCBWI-Carolinas will offer three webinars with industry professionals at key stages. These tutorials will be available to challenge participants only. At the close of the challenge, all participants who have completed a picture book dummy will be assigned an agent for a dummy critique of their work.
Illustrators who are interested in writing and illustrating original picture books, or who wish to demonstrate their understanding of the picture book format when seeking work with children’s book publishers, are invited to participate.
SCBWI members in the Carolinas will be given priority during registration.
WHEN
The challenge starts March 3, 2014, and ends August 24, 2014. Participants will be required to check in via the challenge blog at specific points throughout the challenge (see Challenge Schedule).
WHERE
This is an online challenge. Participants will need to be able to access and post to the challenge blog, and must be able to participate in the three web conferences either by computer or phone.
COST
The cost for the online tutorial, access to the password-protected blog, three webinars, and the agent review at the close of the challenge is $50, due at registration.
The registration fee is nonrefundable, so please be sure you intend to complete the challenge before registering. Also, please note that in order to be eligible for the agent review, participants must have checked in (by posting a comment to the challenge blog) at the required intervals during the challenge, and must have a finished dummy by the end date of August 24.
