Your Career Starts Here!

1:30 PM TO 2:30 PM

This is a nuts and bolts beginners session that will answer all those burning questions new conference-goers come armed with: How do I query editors? What editors should I query? Do I query agents instead? How do I write a query letter? If I’m writing a picture book, do I have to find an illustrator? What’s an advance? Do I have to pay it back if my book doesn’t sell? How do royalties work? And on and on.

There is a set presentation, plenty of time for questions. This breakout is the answer to the question when a fellow conference-goer ask one of those basic questions during an author/agent roundtable: “How was that not already covered in a breakout session!?” So this session aims to basic questions, if you are new to the conference or relatively new to the field make sure to get this program on your schedule.

Similarly, the Authors Roundtable session will be a great resource for writers of all levels. Charlotte author Carrie Ryan, who wrote the bestselling Forest of Hands and Teeth series, originally put this together, and it was a smashing success. This year, we will change up the session and you will be able to listen in on frank and revealing discussions about all sides of writing for kids, from craft to publicity to business. The Carolinas region is really lucky to have so many talented and successful authors as active members. This is another time to come get any of those lingering, burning questions answered!
