ATTENDING AN INTENSIVE PROGRAM?  Registration desk opens at 7:30 AM on Friday September 27, 2019 for intensives only. Registration Mistress, Debbie Allmand, provides a folder and your nametag.

ATTENDING THE GENERAL CONFERENCE?  Registration desk opens at 1:00 PM on September 27, 2019. Registration Mistress, Debbie Allmand, provides a folder and your nametag.   Check in here prior to attending a consultation.

PARTICIPATING IN A CONSULTATION?  Check-in desk opens at 1:45 PM in the lobby of the Carolinas Ballroom. Please check in at the desk ten (10) minutes prior to your scheduled session.

If you have not checked the schedules for your session time, please do so. Consultations CAN NOT be rescheduled.  CONSULTATION SCHEDULES:  MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUES, PORTFOLIO REVIEWS,ONE-ON-ONE

▪   Contribute to our BOOK  BASKET PROGRAM. Please bring a new or gently used bookOur conference has been providing books to Child Care Resources Inc. since 2014.  Find out more about them at We will present our book basket on Saturday at 11:30 AM. 

▪   If you’re worried about parking–The Crowne Plaza Hotel was chosen for its easy access off Tryon Blvd and Exit 5 of I-77. The parking lot surrounding the hotel is for all attendees and parking is FREE.


JUST FOR NEW ARRIVALS. At 1:30 PM Kelly Dyksterhouse’s YOUR CAREER STARTS HERE is a nuts and bolts beginners session that will answer all those burning questions new conference-goers want to ask. For more information read The Inside Track for New Arrivals  

Critique and Review sessions are scheduled from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Carolinas Ballroom.

The Bookstore opens at 2:00 PM in Magnolia, Azalea and Dogwood until 5:00 PM.

Starting at 3:30 PM we have three wonderful breakout sessions~ something for everyone!

Dinner is on your own and we provide a list of area restaurants. Make sure you are back in time for our Meet the Agents session at 7:30 PM, in the Piedmont Ballroom.

Check out  the après-conference activities on Friday night. You may be participating in our  Pitch Party or Illustrator Draw-off or the Red-Eye Critiques or just meeting and greeting old friends and making new ones. This is a time to discuss all things children’s lit. Get a good night’s sleep.


From the continental breakfast in the meeting rooms lobby and the opening keynote to the Evening Social, Saturday is a full day. In addition to fabulous breakout sessions, we honor our 2019 Art and Writing Contest Winners and award our book basket. And on Saturday we all enjoy our Evening Social with the Portfolio Showcase. The conference bookstore remains open during the Autograph Party  And stop in at the Author’s Roundtable Panel in Salon D/E for information on all things children’s publishing.

And our conference is not done!


You have a choice fabulous breakouts sessions starting at 8:00 AM followed by our closing keynote.  Don’t cut out early.We have our annual drawing for the William Hooks Scholarship. You could win free tuition to our 2020 conference!

We’re looking forward to this conference, it’s been a lot of work. We have a fabulous faculty, a great facility and sessions that are meant to inform and, yes, even amaze. It’s going to be an exciting weekend!
