You MAY submit ONE manuscript to the Writing Contest and ONE piece of art to the Art Contest — these are separate contests.
*There is no registration or fee to enter.
*SCBWI-Carolinas recruits industry professionals to serve as judges for the art contest and for each of the categories of the writing contest.
*Each qualified entry will receive feedback from the judge in the form of a scaled checklist of criteria appropriate to each category.
*Writers may enter in one of two categories: novels and illustrated fiction books.
*Contest submission rules are posted on the website in late fall, at which time illustrators are given a contest prompt.
Both the Art and the Writing Contest are now digital only.
Both Picture Book and Novel Categories are now accepting Fiction and Nonfiction Submissions.
Please read the Official Contest Rules Carefully.
We announce our Art and Writing Contest Winners in July of each year after sending personal letters to each of the winners in each category.
First place winners in each category are awarded free tuition to the Carolinas Annual Fall Conference. First, second and third place winners are recognized on the Carolinas website and are presented with certificates at the fall conference, where there is also a contest portfolio of the collected art entries on display.
